Information technology is referred to computer technologies capable to store and process information. The word "computer" is with us since the 1640s, where it meant a person who makes arithmetic calculations. One of the ancient machine, the south-pointing chariot, from 910 BC, was also something that with gear ratios multiplied mathematically speaking. The shape of the current computer is based on its ancestors that has been present for many centuries.
Today, a computer is a set of hardware with specific purposes. One can store information. Another process the information that it reads from memory. Another one presents on a display. When the device gets electricity from some power source, it's components start to behave, logical gates are opened and closed to control the current's flow.
The current flow is actually a program inside a hardware component. The first program when a computer is powered on is the Basic Input/Output System, the so called BIOS which initializes the computer. The BIOS then starts an operating system's bootloader which then the kernel. The kernel is then responsible to talk to the hardware components. User software talk to the kernel, requesting resources, such as memory or a hardware, or peripheral event like the keyboard or mouse.
Then there is the internet. The internet is a computer network connected to each other usually via a DSL cable or via 5G, then for the local network with an ethernet cable or via wi-fi.
